This week has seen us drawing up a topographic survey, elevations and street scenes of a school we recently surveyed in Nottingham.
Our clients who represented the school, were looking for a land surveyor in Nottingham to carry out the measured surveys. This was to be in accordance with a specification advised by their consultants. After receiving a word of mouth referral from one of our existing customers, they contacted Topographical. We discussed the survey, agreed the fee, arranged the access and got out to site as soon as possible.
There were a number of existing buildings included in the site survey, and detailed elevation drawings of the existing facades were required to inform the proposed works. We used a 3d scanner to capture a point cloud of the existing buildings - and a robotic total station to control the accuracy of the scanner. In between scanning setups, the total station was used to produce the topographical survey, maximising efficiency on site.
GPS survey points were also used to ensure the topographic and measured building surveys were positioned accurately within the Ordnance Survey map of Nottingham. After processing the topographic survey points and the 3d scan data, the data sets were combined and 2d and 3d models were extracted for use in a CAD environment.
The existing elevations could be used by architects as the basis for sympathetic design of any new buildings. The topographic survey and ground profile sections allow the position, mass and ground levels to be designed, while street scene elevations allow proposed elevations to be presented to planning authorities appropriately.
